The Ukrainian government will urge the European Commission to extend the current temporary trade benefits - set to expire on June 5 - until the end of the year, aiming to prevent a return to pre-war trade barriers between Kyiv and the EU. Oksana Osmachko, Ukraine’s deputy minister for agrarian policy, said on Thursday that Kyiv’s efforts are currently focused on extending the so-called Autonomous Trade Measures (ATMs) to allow more time for negotiating a long-term solution. “As the war has not ended yet, we consider this trade regime should be extended until we find a long-term solution,” said Osmachko at an event organised by Ukraine’s Agribusiness Club (UCAB). The European Commission has repeatedly signalled that it does not plan to extend the ATMs again, as the negotiations on the agricultural part were the most difficult.
