The sugar industry has updated its roadmap study for achieving climate-neutral sugar production based on current political and economic developments. It confirms the use of our own waste materials for energy supply as an essential measure. A reliable political framework is now necessary for a changeover by 2045. “ Climate-neutral sugar production by 2045 is possible. The industry is facing enormous investments. We want to start implementation today rather than tomorrow in order to complete the transition by 2045. The use of your own biomass residues is essential for this. We now need a reliable political framework. To achieve this, the EU directives on the use of biomass for energy that were passed last year must be implemented quickly, safely and 1:1 into national law ,” demands Dr. Lars Gorissen, Chairman of the Sugar Industry Association.
